About Rust Analytics

Rust Analytics records what every public Rust server publishes about itself, every five minutes.

The in-game browser shows you a list. It does not show you what that list looked like last Tuesday at 21:00, or how a server's average population has moved since its last wipe. Rust Analytics keeps that record.

Where the figures come from

Two sources. The first is Steam's public Rust server list: name, player count, queue, region and the tags a server sets. The second is a direct query to the server itself, which can return map seed, entity count and frame rate. A server may decline the direct query or not support it. When that happens, the entry carries only what Steam publishes, and the pages say so.

What is measured

Population is sampled every five minutes and stored. From those samples the site builds hourly and daily averages, shares by region, and week-on-week change. Wipe dates come from the server's own settings and from observed population resets; where the two disagree, the observed reset is shown alongside the declared schedule. Rank uses players over the past seven days, hour by hour, so a server that fills every evening sits above one that spikes once after a wipe. Ordering in every list is by player count and nothing else. Placement is not for sale.

Limits you should know

Figures are only as good as what a server reports. A server that hides its player count, or blocks direct queries, will show gaps. Restarts can drop a sample. The refresh interval is five minutes, so a number on screen may be up to five minutes old; the timestamp on each page states when it was last written. Historical series begin when the site first observed a server, not when the server launched.

Independence

Rust Analytics is run independently. It is not affiliated with Facepunch Studios and carries no endorsement from them. Server names, descriptions and images remain the property of the people who operate those servers. Corrections usually lie in the server's own configuration; changes appear within about five minutes of a fix. If a figure still looks wrong, write to hello@rustanalytics.world.

Start with the full server list, the live player count or the force wipe timer.

Questions

3 answered
How often does Rust Analytics update its figures?

Every five minutes. Each page carries the timestamp of its last write, so you can see how old the number is. A sample can be missed if a server restarts at the wrong moment.

Is Rust Analytics connected to Facepunch?

No. It is an independent site and has no affiliation with Facepunch Studios. Nothing on the site is endorsed by them. Server names, descriptions and images belong to the people who run those servers.

Why does my server show incomplete data?

Usually because the server does not answer direct queries, so only Steam's public list is available. A server that hides its player count will show gaps. Most fixes sit in the server's own settings and appear within about five minutes.
